Austin, Texas - Part I

Austin, Texas - Part I: My trip to Austin was the first time I was on a flight since the beginning of the pandemic. It’s been on my list of U.S. destinations to check out for quite some time so when the opportunity presented itself, I took it. Masked up, vaccinated and ready to travel again, away we go. Enjoy!

Cool street art popped up on random corners as I walked my way through the streets of Austin! Some are more iconic than others but all cool nonetheless.

Everything you heard about the food scene in Austin is true. Yes, the BBQ is a must but I was happy to discover so much more in the cuisine scene.

Here are some spots worth checking out…

1. AbA for memorable Mediterranean 2. The Continental Club for a legendary Live Music/Bar scene. 3. Perla’s for Oysters. 4. Terry Black’s BBQ one of many delicious BBQ spots in Austin 5. The Roosevelt Room for a carefully crafted cocktail 6. Loro for an Asian Smokehouse & Bar.

The best part of staying at a hotel on South Congress is that you are within walking distance from many must-see spots. Below are pictures taken from the famous Congress Avenue Bridge where you get to see the bats in flight around sunset. Truth be told, the viewing of the bats was uneventful - at least on this particular evening - but the views leading up to it were pretty cool. If you aren’t catching the views from the top of the bridge, another option is to rent a kayak or hop on a boat to see them from below.

Calling all VINTAGE lovers… there are plenty of vintage shops to check out while in Austin. Below are just a few that I visited during my trip as well as some other cool shops. Some of them you will find right off of South Congress Avenue and there are a few that you can discover after a walk through some cool neighborhoods.

1. Lucy in Disguise. 2. Feathers Vintage. 3. Passport Vintage. 4. Bloomers and Frocks.

Too hot to walk? Don’t feel like jumping in a Taxi or an Uber? Apparently, the next best thing in Austin are these scooters. You can find them everywhere on the street. Hop on one if you feel daring and check out some of the cool sites Austin has to offer. But please be careful, helmets are not included!
