Austin, Texas - Part II: On this trip, I was able to experience the hotels that fall under the Bunkhouse Group. It’s a new brand to Solbrilla Travel and I must say they have something for everyone offering up different levels of service. I stayed at Hotel San Jose and Hotel Magdalena & had site inspections at Austin Motel & Hotel Saint Cecilia. All within walking distance of each other and in prime locations.
HOTEL SAN JOSE - a 40 room urban bungalow-style hotel. Located on South Congress Avenue and right across the street from the Continental Club which I highlighted in my Part I post. Oh, and for you fellow product junkies, they have Malin + Goetz bath amenities and the coolest custom Kimono bathrobes (which are for sale).
AUSTIN MOTEL - also on South Congress Avenue and literally right next door to Hotel San Jose. Solbrilla Travel doesn’t highlight many motels (if any) but if you are going to stay in one, this would be it!
HOTEL MAGDALENA - located on Music Lane still in the South Congress neighborhood. It offers 89 rooms and is currently the largest Bunkhouse property. Not too large, it still has that cozy nostalgic vibe that, at this point, is becoming a theme with these properties.
Side note… with so many great restaurant choices in this city, you probably wouldn’t think of eating at the hotel. If you do though, the Summer House at Hotel Magdalena is a great choice. Be sure to start your meal off with their caramelized onion dip & freshly baked chips. I still can’t get them out of my mind.
HOTEL SAINT CECILIA - located in the historic Travis Heights neighborhood and one block from the South Congress neighborhood. It was named in honor of the patron saint of music and poetry. This property is one of the coolest I have seen in a while and was by far my favorite simply for the vibe and style. Solbrilla style approved! The words “old-world luxury” are used to describe it and I couldn’t agree more.
Side note for all of you fur-parents… dogs are always welcome with advance notice. Perhaps they can play with Saint, the hotel dog (pictured below) whom I met during my visit.
