If you are a serious flea market fanatic then you want to start super early to be first on line. I am more of a semi-serious shopper so I pick up my rental car around 9:00am and hit the road. If planned properly, you can fit in at least three flea markets and a few vintage shops along the way. Of course, we always leave room for a lunch break to get a decent meal in, otherwise, you will end up eating flea market food which is fun but not the healthiest. Here are a few Flea Market options... *Elephant's Trunk Flea Market, New Milford, CT (pictured below). *Stormville Flea Market, Stormville, NY. *Beacon Flea Market, Beacon, NY.
Another stop worth making along this route is Cold Spring, NY which has a cute main street with shops and restaurants. I found a couple of Thrift Stores here as well. We enjoyed lunch on the patio of a French Brasserie, Le Bouchon. A short walk away leads you to beautiful views of the Hudson River.
Another Day Trip option that doesn't require a car is Brooklyn, NY. A quick subway ride to Bushwick, Greenpoint or Williamsburg and you can visit some great Thrift Stores within walking distance of each other. Make a day of it and be sure to include a stop at one of the many great restaurants Brooklyn has to offer. Pictured below, Bushwick...*Urban Jungle; L Train Vintage; Beacon's Closet; Friends. In this particular area a visit to Roberta's is a must for some of the best pizza around.
Pictured below, a shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with a combination of items for sale from vintage clothing to plants & home items. I've visited this shop a few times but for some reason I can't remember the name! It was around Norman Avenue and Dobbin Street. The best part of visiting these neighborhoods is walking around and discovering shops on your own. Check out my "Food Blog" & "Food Photos" page for some great Greenpoint restaurant options.
