Hudson over the Holidays 2020

The last time I set out on a road trip adventure to Hudson, NY it was warm but I’ve always wanted to return during the colder holiday season. My birthday happens to fall in December and, considering our limited options of things to do in the city due to the pandemic, it seemed like a perfect day trip. It was a random last-minute trip which quite frankly sometimes make for the best trips. The original plan was to go for a hike, visit one of my favorite antique warehouses and then find a spot outside somewhere to have lunch. Well, let’s just say the hike never happened (there’s always next time) but the antique warehouse did with a few additional shopping spots along the way. We were also pleasantly surprised with an indoor dining experience at a new restaurant. Spontaneity worked in our favor today!

There is plenty to do and see in this charming and historical town. There are plenty of shopping options including vintage & antique shops, art galleries, and numerous restaurants. I was surprised to find some new shops opened as well in spite of covid-19 hitting us hard this year. Taking a stroll down Warren street (pictured below) is one of my favorite things to do when visiting Hudson, NY.

A trip to Hudson, NY isn’t complete for me without a stop at the Antique Warehouse. If you are looking to furnish your home with unique one of a kind finds, this is your place. It is big so give yourself plenty of time to browse the 40,000 SF space.

An important part of road-tripping, especially during a pandemic, is you have to be spontaneous. We tried checking out a restaurant we had lunch at during our last trip (Fish & Game) only to find out sadly they had permanently closed earlier on during the pandemic. But, luckily a new restaurant opened up in its place, “Feast & Floret” - I believe owned by the same parent company.

Honestly, I had an even better dining experience this time around partly due to the decor. What can I say... I’m a sucker for aesthetics. Of course, the food must be just as good - and it was. They were offering limited capacity indoor dining following all social distancing guidelines and we arrived just in time to score one of their last open tables. We were seated at a corner table enveloped by two huge plants overlooking a floral display. It honestly felt like we were sitting in the middle of a flower shop (hence the name). Along with all of the foliage & flowers, the roaring fireplace and Christmas decorations provided the perfect backdrop for a festive birthday lunch.
