During my recent road trip to Rhode Island, I had the opportunity to stay at Ocean House, the first and only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-star hotel in the state. This luxury hotel is located in the seaside village of Watch Hill.
When visiting Rhode Island, you can’t go wrong with a stay at Ocean House or Weekapaug Inn, their sister property. Allow my photos below to provide you with a virtual visit until you are ready for Solbrilla Travel to book your stay😉
Ocean House… Watch Hill, Rhode Island:
While the history of this hotel dates back to the early 1900s, a new structure was built in 2004. More than 5,000 salvageable artifacts and furnishing elements were saved from the original structure’s historic interior. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I am all about salvaging and repurposing!
The hotel sits on13 acres of land and provides access to 650-feet of private beach. I visited in April so it wasn’t exactly sunbathing on the beach kind of weather BUT I discovered a newfound appreciation for brisk sunny morning walks along the beach with a cup of coffee in hand. Oh yes, I can get used to this. So the next time you are considering visiting a beach property, think outside of the box and perhaps take advantage of a good deal during off-peak season.
Dinner at The Bistro is an excellent option if their other restaurant Coast is fully booked. Coast is one of CNN Traveler’s “World’s Best Waterfront Restaurants” so, depending on your preference, be sure to book your reservations in advance.
No visit to a property like this is complete without a spa treatment ~ OH! Spa. On the day of our departure, I started my morning off with an Arnica Deep Tissue Massage and my husband booked the Ocean Bliss Massage. OHMMMMM
A 15-minute drive down the road you will find their sister property - Weekapaug Inn in Westerly, Rhode Island.
I love a good Historic Inn that delivers history yet provides all of the modern amenities that one looks for when booking a hotel stay. Luckily, Weekapaug Inn delivers just that. It overlooks Quonochontaug Pond and the Atlantic ocean is just steps away. The property was originally built in 1899. In 2012, it underwent a $20 million renovation and is a Relais & Châteaux property now. Don’t worry, the renovation and upgraded status does not take away from the history and charm you would want and expect from a historic Inn.
We grabbed lunch here before hitting the road back home. The Restaurant, which offers a farm-to-table menu using fresh local ingredients, provided the perfect New England coastal cuisine. As a conch fritter connoisseur, it was a no-brainer for me to make a reservation here as soon as I saw they had LOBSTER fritters on the menu. Needless to say, everything including the Lobster fritters was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in this area.
After lunch, we sat out back taking in all of the zen of the pond and its picturesque surroundings. I will definitely stay at this property during my next visit to Rhode Island.
