Southern Italy, Part I - 2018

Southern Italy - Part I… This was my fourth time visiting Italy but my first time in southern Italy, “aka the heel of the boot”. On the itinerary for this trip was Apulia (Puglia) and Basilicata which is considered more of the “instep” of the boot. The NY Times ranked Basilicata #3 in its “52 Places to Go in 2018” list and now I understand why. A trip such as this one allows you to truly immerse yourself into the Italian way of life. Venice & Trento, Italy 2016

First stop, Venice!  A day trip to nearby, Burano & Murano where a rainbow of architecture & hand blown glass awaits.  Catch a train to visit the town of Trento where you will encounter amazing food & some shopping.  Rent or hire a car and escape to the mountainous Trentino-Alto Aldige (bordering Austria & Switzerland) for wine tasting.  We visited Pacherhof, Hotel Weingut & Strasserhof, Vineyard & B&B.  Our tastings were so memorable that, to this day, I always search for them on any menu or in any wine store.  I recommend staying at either property to make it a special experience!  A perfect trip to one of my favorite destinations, Italy!
